Course abstract

The course gives knowledge about soil physical and mechanical properties, the basic concepts in soil mechanics, stress determination methods in subbase soils, the types of foundations for buildings, machinery and equipment including deal with practice, the principle of foundation design, specifics of renovation of foundations.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge: on mechanical properties of soils, on the basic concepts in soil mechanics, on methods used for determination of stresses in soils, on types of foundations including deal with practice. Skills: to do a good choice for design method of foundations and to perform the calculations. Competence: ability for rational choice structural solution of foundation regarding to geotechnical characteristics of soils.
