Course abstract

The subject "Surveying III" gives the students theoretical knowledge of the projection of the Earth's surface on maps, scales, coordinate systems, topographic maps nomenclature, Latvia map system, map projection and designing, practical knowledge of the determination and projection of areas, solving various tasks on topographic map, the calculation of separate area's trapezium coordinates.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing the studies student will have:
• knowledge of the projection of the Earth's surface on maps, scales, coordinate systems, Latvia map system, map projection and designing, aerophotography.
• skills to use the theoretical knowledge in practice: map projection and designing, practical knowledge of the determination and projection of areas, solving various tasks on topographic map, the calculation of separate area's trapezium coordinates.
• competence to independently access, select and analyze information necessary for the work, and use it to make decisions within its jurisdiction and to address problems with an executable work, understanding of professional ethics, to be able to assess their professional activities on the environment and society. Being able to critically evaluate their knowledge and skills and understand the need for continued education, and be liable for the quality of their own work.
