Course abstract

The aim of field practice is to master and use the acquired knowledge in plant morphology, systematics, ecology and ecobotany in identification of woody plants and their usage in landscape architecture (in natural and artificial ecosystems).

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge about the morphology, biology, and ecology of the wild and introduced woody plants taxa and their significance in the ecosystems, taxa migration, geographical occurrence and floristic status in Latvia. Skills to analyze and evaluate the morphological features of the woody plants, to evaluate their taxonomic value and to identify taxa, to estimate usage of taxa in landscape architecture. Competence to evaluate and explain the expressions of the interaction of woody plant taxa and the environment, and to discuss the suitability of the taxon to the particular ecological conditions, if necessary, to motivate its replacement.
