Course abstract

The aim of the study course is to acquire knowledge about the parks and typology and planning of them. Main attention will be driven to the manor parks and gardens in Latvia. Process of study course includes lectures and development of course project. In the course project will be developed reconstruction plan of the park or plan of the new park.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Students will get:
• knowledge about historical parks of Latvia and great garden architects of Latvia: G. Kufalts, A. Zeidaks, K. Baron and their contribution in development of Latvia parks. And will get knowledge about typology of parks, building normative for designing and the latest tendencies in development of parks;
• skills in research of existing space situation, desired special structure planning, use of compositional methods, planning of functional and special structure of parks, choose of dendrological material;
• competence in using of manor park space planning and dendrological structure research methods and use of research results in park adjustment for nowadays needs.
