Course abstract

The purpose of the object is to study the parts of buildings and design, including details of multi-storey residential, public and industrial buildings, classification, the structure of the building and the general requirements. The main building structures: foundations, walls, divisions, floors, partitions, stairs, roofs, windows, doors and other concepts of design of structural building elements are acquired both in theory and during the design of the course project. The basic principles for the design of multi-storey residential, public buildings are acquired: children's institutions, schools, cinemas and sports structures, as well as industrial buildings

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge: Knows the basics of building design. Solutions for public and industrial buildings and construction details – written exam.
• Skills: Knows how to design drawings of AR part of construction. Knows how to apply construction terminology. Ensure fire safety standards and requirements. Develop appropriate design documentation in the composition of the sketches or technical design. He/she is able to navigate the offer, suitability and cost of building materials. Knows the characteristics of building materials. Familiar with the essential requirements for public and industrial constructions – course project.
• Competence: Able to design the architectural part of building projects. Capable of evaluating, expertise or approval part of construction projects. Is able to evaluate and follow environmental protection measures – course project, oral test.

Course Content(Calendar)

Lectures (4):
1. General definitions of buildings and building design - classification of buildings, structural schemes, typeisation and unification. Construction heat engineering, sound insulation and natural lighting in residential and public buildings. Soil conditions and their breakdown - foundation soil, natural and artificial bases. General requirements and classification of the foundations. Choosing the most suitable type of foundations, technical economic indicators (2h)
2. Requirements for walls and classification of walls. Wall architecture and structural elements and details. Classification of floor slabs, requirements, technical economic indicators. Classification and requirements of floors of residential and public buildings. Floor structural elements (2h)
3. Types of partitions in residential and public buildings, classification, significant requirements. Types of stairs and basic principles of design. Stair constructions, staircases, special stairs. (2h)
4. Types of roofs, general requirements, their constructions. Roof coverings, folded roofs, flat roofs. Windows, skylights, doors and gates. (2h)

Practical work/seminars (4)

5. Course project task, object selection, volume determination. Raw data calculation, normative base. Calculation of premises, thermal appliances of enclosing structures. Description of constructive solutions and utilities.
6. Floor plans. Facades of the building. Cross-section through the stairwell. Longitudinal section.
7. Foundation plan with specification of building details. Basement and roof floor cover plans with specification. Mezzan floor cover plans with specification of cover elements. Roof plan with slopes, markings, schematic representation of rainwater engineering systems.
8. Plan of the building shed. Designations, technical economic calculations and indicators of the shed plan, construction product. Characteristic detail drawings and parts. Course work design, printout, and brooch.

Requirements for awarding credit points

The course provides for an exam and a graphical course work.
A written examination must be successfully passed, in which drawings of the structural parts described in 3 text 3 must be examined in detail. The assessment of the examination depends on the correct detail of the nodes, the accuracy of the dimensions, the definition and choice of the materials used, the exclusion of the freezing bridges, the acoustics and other important characteristics.
The project of the course will be evaluated with a mark if the student has independently developed the industrial or public building project in accordance with the issued individual assignment, and there are positive results of the conversation about the content of the course.

15. Presentation, print and paperback of the course. (2h)2. The draft course – in scope and content includes: cover page, explanatory memorandum 7-10 pp, tabele of source of literature, drawings (floor plans, cross sections, facades, site plan, etc. by task).

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Exam – a text-defined task for three constructive details (e.g. foundation design detail, column and cover coupling detail, etc.). During 60 min, detailed constructive details with dimensions, element keys and technical specifications should be drawn.
The assessment of the study course examination depends on the evaluation of the exam assignment and the cumulative assessment of the course of study.
A student can obtain a successful grade for the exam test if at least 50% of the constructive nodes are drawn correctly and in detail.
Students with a checklist of at least 7 for this course and a successful assessment received before the exam session may fail the theoretical test and how to align the theoretical test rating with the grade tuition course.
The exam mark is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the three exam assignments.
The student is able to demonstrate the acquired knowledge, skills and competence by defending the project independently developed.
