Course abstract

The aim of the subject is to give provide knowledge about all China and Japan development periods of architecture and garden art, starting from the roots to the nowadays, including the most notable objects from China and Japan. A special attention is drawn to the philosophy, structure of gardens in China and Japan, and their influence of them on the garden art of Europe, Asia, and America. The subject of the study process consists of lectures and independently prepared reports in workshops.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

The outcome of the study course:
• knowledge about the establishment of objects, structure, philosophy, used traditional elements and plants of architecture and garden art from the respective according periods of China and Japan,
• skills to recognize architecture and gardens of China and Japan in this country and, as well as in other places around the world,
• ability to characterize and evaluate Chinese and Japanese gardens and components of them, and design Japanese garden plans in accordance with the Planning courses in planning.
