The aim of the study course is to provide students with the knowledge of development stages and styles of Latvian architecture and landscape garden art in relation to the historic periods. Students learn how to apply respective knowledge of architecture and landscape garden art history in design. The study process contains lectures, field trips and a course project of a territory in a culture heritage landscape.
• Knowledge: students have knowledge of architecture of Latvian manors, castles and traditional manor and castle garden designs, creation of gardens and parks of Riga city and other cities, the art of Georg Kuphaldt, Andrejs Zeidaks, Karlis Barons, prominent garden architects.
• Skills: students are able to explore and use compositions, shapes and plants typical of various styles of garden design and landscape architecture.
• Competence: students have the competence to characterize, compare and evaluate styles of architecture and landscape architecture of the project area, analyse specific features of heritage landscapes and design requirements.
