Course abstract

The aim of the subject is to give knowledge about development periods and styles of architecture and garden art, starting from the roots in the Romanesque period, including most notable objects of Europe, Asia, America and Latvia according to these periods of time. A special attention is drawn to the history of architectural monuments and shaping of gardens by Egypt, Greeks and Romans. The Subject study process of the subject consists of lectures lections and independently prepared reports in workshops.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

The outcome of the study course:
• knowledge about the emergence of architecture and art objects and structure of them their structure, their importance of them in further periods of history and in nowadays, about the historical garden shaping and use of plants in them,
• skills to recognize ancient, old Egypt, Greek and Roman architecture and garden styles,
• ability to characterize, compare and evaluate periods of architecture and garden art starting from the roots to the Romanesque period.
