Course abstract

Counselling and Research is a practice where students take part in different career counselling and research activities; plan their work, organization, control and assessment in various organizations, including educational establishments. Students independently perform career counseling and research in accordance with the specifics of the organization's activities, its target audience (clients) and the situation.
They use the acquired knowledge and skills in various study courses, including research methodology, thus developing and demonstrating the career counseling and research competencies of a career counselor.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing the course student will have:
•Knowledge (in the level of use) that is acquired during study courses before practice Counselling and Research.
Skills: to plan, organize, manage, analyze and evaluate career counseling services independently; to use ICT for information acquisition, compilation, analysis and evaluation, mathematical processing of the obtained data and comparison of results. Is able to choose and use data acquisition and processing methods appropriate to the research goals, objectives and target audience; to analyze and evaluate the obtained results. Able to self-educate, i.e., based on self-assessment can constantly acquire and accumulate new knowledge, as well as improve existing knowledge and skills.
Competences: students are able to use the theoretical knowledge and skills of career counseling in independent counseling according to the chosen place of practice, i.e. the specifics of the practice organization, professional profile and target audience and the context of the environment, including the situation. Students are able to use the acquired theoretical knowledge and skills in research methodology, planning and carrying out researches in the field of career counseling according to the topic, aim and tasks of research; is able to coordinate the goals of counseling with the goals of research, performing selected or self-developed counseling methodologies, concepts, strategies or career education programs, etc. approbation and evaluation based on a client-centered approach. Students are able to carry out research with scientific and practical significance (value) in the field of career counseling; is able to self-evaluate counselling effectiveness based on during research acquired analysis and evaluation of results. Students are able to make independent decisions in their field of professional activity, as well as take responsibility for their own‘s work; is able to analyze and evaluate the disadvantages of one’s consulting and research work, marking further professional development’s perspective, defining future professional growth’s aims and tasks.
The practice results are assessed in the exam, which consists of two parts: written part (practice report); oral part (practice presentation and public defense). Summative or accumulative assessment (rating).

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Work up an individual plan of practice; introduction of the organization of the practice and its target audience; first data collection.
2. Based on the obtained results, develop a counselling program and choose a counselling methodology.
3. If necessary, work up career development support strategy, conception, model, program development is commenced.
4. Develop counselling programs, strategies, concepts, implementation of the model in practice.
5. Individual and group consultations, career education activities, including announcement, CV, motivation letter writing.
6. Expertise of the developed career guidance strategy, conception, model, programs.
7. Re-collecting and processing data, comparing, analysing and evaluating the results.
8. Development of recommendations.
9. Preparing of the practice report and public presentation and electronic submission 3 days before the exam.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Each student, in accordance with the requirements of practice, sets up his own individual practice plan, which corresponds to the chosen research direction and the topic of the research and counselling work objectives and tasks. The individual practice plan is coordinated and approved by the study course lecturer at the university and the mentor in the practice base organization.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

•The content of the individual practice plan: research and counselling structure (stages and content) and its logic.
•Coherence, complexity and originality of carried out research and advisory activities.
•Structure, content, volume, attachments of the practice report;
•Technical design and content of the presentation.
•Student's research and consulting competence, as well as the expressed opinion during defense and discussion.
•Practice mentor’s feedback on student performance during practice.
