Course abstract

Study course associate theoretical and practical solutions of problems of environmental sanitation, notably in the provision of safe and ample public water supplies, the proper disposal or recycle of wastewater and solid wastes and the control of water, soil and atmospheric pollution, and the social and environmental impact of these solutions. Students learn the possible technical solutions to engineering problems relating to public health, and technological development impact to the environment.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

The course develops knowledge and understanding of the possible technical solutions for water, air and soil pollution control and prevention. The theoretical knowledge of the students will be evaluated by 2 writing tests about theoretical material. Will be evaluated in local grade system.

Students will have a skills to prepare equipment and construction of water engineering projects, including the explanatory part and graphical material. The skills will be evaluated by independently developed course project submitted at the end of the semester.

Competence in environmental engineering issues listed in the course description, will provide an opportunity to make their own decisions and take action in the field of environment and water management, in their solutions balancing between economic, social and environmental aspects. The competences will be assessed during the oral presentation of the course project by asking additional questions on various environmental issues.

Requirements for awarding credit points

In order to successfully complete this course, students should obtain a minimum number of points. 10% of the total amount of points can be earned by the attendance of classes. 50% of the points are given for the theoretical part earned by the tests. 40% of points make practical and laboratory works, including participation in the seminar with the presentation about the topic agreed by lecturer.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Students' independent work is organized outside the contact hours. This includes the obtaining of lecture material, studying the literature indicated by the lecturer in addition. Practical and laboratory works are organized independently, with the possibility to ask unclear questions during the lessons.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Successfully passed 2 tests on the topics covered in the lectures, participation in the seminar with a presentation, developed practical and laboratory works.
