Course of small animal surgery instructs etiology of soft tissue and orthopedic surgical diseases, pathogenesis, diagnosis, differential diagnosis of diseases and principles of treatment. The first part of the course includes anesthetic agents, wounds healing, surgical treatment of respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary and reproductive system.
Knowledge: to describe surgical treatment of respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary, reproductive system, wounds and hernias – 2 tests.
Skills: clinically exam the patients, formulate diagnosis, describe pathologic processes and prescribe treatment; calculate anesthetics; prepare patient to surgery; monitore patient – practicals.
Competency: according to acquired knowledge and skills discuss in groups and answer independently about surgical cases.

2. Wound, treatment methods. Bleeding and hemostasis. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
3. Surgery of the ear. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
4. Surgery of the eye. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
5. Laparatomy. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
6. Hernias. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
7. Foreign body in digestive tract. Intussusception. Rectal prolapse. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
8. Gastric dilatation and volvulus. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
9. 1st test.
10. Castrations. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
11. Piometra. C-section. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
12. Vaginal prolapse. Prostate disease. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
13. Nephrectomy. Urinary bladder and urethra diseases. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
14. Skin and mammary gland tumors. Biopsy. 1 h lecture and 2 h practical works
15.Brachycephalic

16. 2nd test.
Successfully completed two tests.
Absence of lectures and practical works are not more than 30% of the total number of lessons. If missed lectures and practical works are more than 30% of the total number of lessons, then the course must be repeated.
Home works are evaluated in accordance with the tasks of the practical works.
Student skills are assessed in accordance with the procedures specified in the tasks of the practical work.
Study course tests are evaluated in accordance with the criteria of the scale indicated in the LLU Study Regulations.
To get the final grade of the study course "passed", all tests must be evaluated with a grade “passed”.
