The aim of the study course is to develop Latvian communication skills of the students so that they are able to speak and understand simple monologues and dialogues on everyday topics. The interactive language learning method is used, all four language skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) are developed; the vocabulary learning is based on social and personal issues simultaneously providing elementary knowledge of grammar and pronunciation. The language proficiency level corresponds to A2 (CEFR).
Students have acquired terms, reading and use skills in the following areas:
-shopping habits, seasons, university studies, dialogues (Test No. 1);
- man, animals, their well-being (Test No. 2);
- free time, hobby, culture, music, visiting, sports.
Students are able to perceive the main idea in short texts. Able to engage in short conversations about yourself, shopping, and university studies. Can write short information.
Competence – students have the Latvian language proficiency level relevant to A1 (CERF). Linguistic competence is sufficient to understand and use simple expressions and elementary phrases for providing specific needs in everyday life, academic environment and in relation to the future profession.

Assessment: Test (with mark).
It is made up of cumulative assessment. Active work in classes, successfully written three tests, included homework. The number of the missed classes shall not exceed 20%.
Home-work done according to requirements.
The cumulative assessment is composed of the grades in tests and activity in classes. Homework should be a positive evaluation.
