Course abstract

In the course, students build up advanced coaching and leadership skills and learn various approaches to management and leadership coaching. The course analyses cases and examples of applying coaching, various solutions and methods, so that the company or its manager can apply coaching techniques to individual employees and the team. Upon completing the course, the students are competent in applying various coaching techniques, as well as understand the trends of coaching and the influence of the leader on the organization.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Students will be able to demonstrate:
KNOWLEDGE
1. An in-depth understanding of the definitions of coaching, the kinds of and trends in coaching - practical work.
2. A comprehensive knowledge of coaching techniques to be applied at the individual and team level, the role of a leader in the use of coaching techniques - practical work.
SKILLS to

1. Develop an effective plan and identify the most important aspects (setting goals and priorities) - group work.
2. Focus on what is important and assume responsibility (progress and responsibility management) - independent work.
3. Integrate and accurately assess many sources of information and interpret it in a way that helps themselves and others to become aware of what is going on and thus achieve results (awareness stimulation) - individual practical work.
4. Cooperate and communicate within a team - group work.
COMPETENCES to
1. Create preconditions for security and support that ensure constant mutual respect and trust - independent work.
2. Fully focus on what is being said and what is being implied, to understand what is being said in a particular context (active listening) - independent and group work.

3. Create continuous learning opportunities during the use of leadership and coaching instruments to perform new activities more effectively and productively (activity design) - independent practical work, group work.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Origin of coaching, the historical evolution and kinds of coaching (Lectures - 2 hours, practicals - 2 hours).
2. Individual coaching for managers (Lectures - 2 hours, practicals - 2 hours).
3. Group coaching (Lectures - 2 hours, practicals - 2 hours).
4. Self-coaching methods (Lecture - 1 hour, practicals - 2 hours).
5. Leader and emotional intelligence (Lectures - 2 hours, practicals - 3 hours).

6. Role of a leader in an organization (Lecture - 1 hour, practicals - 3 hours).

Requirements for awarding credit points

The assessment of the course represents a formal test with a mark. The final mark represents a cumulative assessment of the pieces of assessment.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The student must study the course materials and special literature (also in a foreign language).
The student must prepare for practical, group and individual work.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The final mark consists of the following pieces of assessment:
• Practical work – 40 points
• Group work – 40 points
• Individual work – 20 points

A score of 10 is equal to one point on a 10-point marking scale.
