The objective of Course is to give students knowledge in experimental methods, measuring technique, data acquisition and computer based measuring systems. Students obtain theoretical principles of Performance characteristics of instruments, sensors, signal conditioning, virtual measurements and data evaluation software and programming tools.
Students know the physical principles of measuring non-electric quantities, their electrical measurement methods and the principles of operation of virtual instruments. Knowledge is evaluated in tests and laboratory works.
Are able to creatively use the acquired knowledge in the selection of appropriate measurement systems and the development of measurement schemes. Able to process experimental data and evaluate errors.
Assessment - Execution of laboratory and independent work.
Students are able to independently critically analyze the conditions of using different measurement sensors in the measurement of dynamically changing processes, to create and evaluate measurement systems with virtual instruments for various measurements. Competences is evaluated in tests and laboratory works.
1. Measuring systems and sensors, their characteristics - 2h.
2. Measurement errors and their reduction possibilities - 2h.
3. Electrical measurement methods of non-electrical quantities - 2h.
4. Proximity Sensors, Types and Uses - 2h
5. Protection of sensors and semiconductor switches against switching overloads - 2h. (Laboratory work)
6. Signals and their types. Digital processing of analog signals - 2h.
7. Test on introduction to measurement systems and signal processing
8. Signal amplifiers and conditioners - 2h.
9. Signal transmission types and sensor connections - 2h.
10. Measurement of mechanical stresses and strains - 2h.
11. Research of displacement measuring sensors - 2h (Laboratory work).
12. Force sensor design and calibration - 2h (Laboratory work)
13. Physical principles of pressure measurement. Flow measurement - 4h.
14. Temperature measurement methods and sensors - 2h.
15. Research of temperature measuring equipment and calibration of sensors - 2h (Laboratory work).
16. Measurement of relative humidity of air - 2h.
17. Test on the principles of measuring physical parameters.
The course ends with a test. In order to pass the test, laboratory works must be defended, tests must be successfully written and tasks of independent work must be completed.
During the independent work the students acquire in-depth the topics discussed in the lectures, carry out the necessary calculations for practical tasks and laboratory work.
1. Independent work: to study the principles of operation of six types of proximity sensors and to evaluate the possibilities of their use.
2. Independent work: to study the types of signal amplifier connection and to perform parameter calculations for the given connection.
A successful assessment can be obtained in the test if there are no significant errors in the calculations and the theoretical issues are explained broadly enough. The student receives a high grade if the tasks performed in the laboratory and independent work are completed, well designed and the student knows the progress of the work and is able to answer questions.
