Course abstract

Nutrient role in animal nutrition and production. Principles, requirements in the organization and planning of animal feeding. Animal Nutrition principles and feed rations. Ration composition of different species, age and productivity of animals groups to achieve maximum results with minimal of feed consumption, while maintaining good animal health, reproductive capacity, longevity. Utilization of feed in animal production. Computer programms for feed ratio optimization.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Obtain knowledge about feeding of farm animals, feed rations preparation and appropriate use of feed. Successfully written tests.
Students will have the skills to make feed rations for animals and plan the economic use of feed. Successful completion of practical work.
It will be competent to discuss and argue about the importance of feeding farm animals. Successful final exam.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Feeding livestock as a basis for livestock production. Lectures 2h.
2. Basic cow feeding requirements, winter feeding, feed rationing. Lectures 4h, practical works 4h.
3. Feeding of cows during transition periods and summer, preparation of feed rations. Lectures 2h, practical works 2h.
4. Feeding bulls, preparing feed rations. Lectures 2h, practical works 2h.
5. Feeding calves up to 6 months of age. Lectures 2h, practical works 2h.
6. Feeding of calves and young caLectures 2h, practical works 2h.ttle after 6 months of age, preparation of feed rations.
1st test on feeding cows and calves.
7. Beef cattle fattening, feed rations.
8. Feeding of sheep and goats, preparation of feed rations. Lectures 2h, practical works 2h.
9. Feeding of horses, preparation of feed rations. Lectures 2h, practical works 2h.
2nd test on meat cattle, sheep, goats and horses feeding.
10. Basic requirements for feeding pigs, mixed feed and feed intake. Lectures 2h, practical works 4h.
11. Feeding of piglets in different age periods, additional feeding methods. Lectures 2h, practical works 2h.
12. Essential requirements for poultry feeding, types of catering. Lectures 2h, practical works 2h.
13. Nutritional needs and rations of poultry feeding. Lectures 2h, practical works 3h.
3rd test on pig and poultry feeding.
14. Basic principles of rabbit and fur feeding. Lectures 2h, practical works 2h.
15. Plan for the use of the produced feed. Lectures 1h, practical works 1h.
16. Scientific reseach and basic principles of research organization in animal nutrition. Lectures 1h.
4 th on rabbit and fur feeding, and feed utilization plan.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Successfully written tests, did practical works, passed final exam.

The student independently studies popular scientific literature

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Student can get a successful mark on the tests and the exam if at least 50% of the questions are answered correctly. The practical work performed is evaluated according to the evaluation procedure specified in the practical task.Without the successful completion of practical works and writing tests, student cannot take the exam. At the end of the course, students who have received in a tests mark 7 (good) during the semester and higher, can get a mark in the exam from the marks obtained in the tests. The mark is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the tests marks.
