Course abstract
Course is supposed as introductory course for students with no background knowledge in irrigation and has following content: History and development ot the irrigation in the Latvia and world. Soils and water deficiency; Types of the irrigation systems; Surface irrigation; Sprinkler irrigation; Drip irrigation; Water sources, Quality of water for irrigation. Layout and design of pipelines. Maintenance of irrigation systems. Maintenance of irrigation pumps.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
• The course develops knowledge and understanding on the soil moisture control, irrigation practice,
• The course enables students with an ability to find technical solutions for application most popular irrigation methods and equipment.
• The course elaborates competence to use knowledge, that students can then bring to elaborate their projects and research approaches on relevant issues in the field of irrigation.
