Course abstract

The study course aims to acquire knowledge in hydropower and hydro-technical construction solutions and to be able to apply the knowledge to solve practical tasks and scientific issues. The water sector. Grounds for water legislation. Hydrotechnical structures, works which are exposed to water pressure and which serve to use water resources, or to prevent harmful effects on waters. Hydrological, filtration, bed, structures hydraulic calculations, wind and rain, erosion effects. Water reservoirs, ponds their parameters. Aquaculture. Geosynthetic. Materials to be used, justification for their choice. Sequence of performance of works, technologies to be applied. Hydro-energy, power, equipment. Calculation of the number of jobs. Estimates.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

The student:
• knows the types of hydrotechnical structures and the specifics of their application – discussion, laboratory work;
• can perform filtration, wind, water exposure calculations — practical and laboratory works;
• can perform hydraulic, hydrotechnical and hydroenergy calculations according to the engineering solution, read and develop engineering drawings — practical and laboratory works
• is ableassess the appropriate location for the intended hydrotechnical structure — practical and laboratory work;
• is able to select an appropriate design solution and perform appropriate engineering calculations — practical and laboratory work;
• is able to assess the accuracy of the engineering calculations — practical and laboratory work.

Requirements for awarding credit points

An exam. The practical and laboratory works of the course (KPLD) should be developed, hydro-technical construction computations, the graphical part must be submitted and successfully defended.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

1. Knowledge of hydro-technical structures, their breakdown, and the main principles of computations.
2. You can choose the location of the hydro-technical structures, offer the type of construction, perform the necessary construction computations and design choices.
3. The ability to choose a type of hydro-technical structure to deal with water management issues.
4. Selection of hydro-technical structures.
5. Shall be able to perform the necessary construction computations and design choices.
6. Knowledge in the construction and operation of hydro-technical structures. Work amounts, their estimates.
7. Can design projects for hydro-technical buildings.
8. Understanding the progress of hydro-technical works and the operational issues of hydro-installations.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The student's performance is evaluated in the 10-point scale system in the exam. The evaluation is obtained by summing up the results developed:
results of practical works (7 p).
the ability of the student to base the results obtained and to respond to topical issues (3 p).
