Course abstract

Students get acquainted with the latest construction technologies and solutions, construction management novelties, legislative developments in the field of construction, the principles of sustainable and ecological construction and applicable construction technologies, BREEAM LV criteria.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge: knows the legislation in the field of construction, construction regulations; construction work processes, technology, construction work planning, organization and management principles in the construction site. Understands the principles of sustainable construction, applied technologies and novelties, as well as BREEAM LV criteria. Test.1, Test 2.
• Skills: is able to plan construction works in accordance with the latest technologies. Practical works.
• Competence: is able to orientate in the latest technologies of construction, planning and management of the construction process. Exam.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Introduction to the study course. The latest legislation in construction. Relation of construction to the fields of bio economy. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.
2. Law of the Republic of Latvia "Law on Public Procurement". Green public procurement. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.
3. Ecological constructions. Technological solutions in ecological construction. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.
4. Test 1. Current legislation in construction. 1h lecture.
5. Principles and technologies of sustainable and environmentally friendly construction. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.
6. Application of environmentally friendly materials and technologies in construction. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.
7. Sustainable construction. Ecological construction. Essential requirements for structures. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.
8. Applied construction technologies and materials. Work organization methods. Test 2. 1h lecture.
9. BREEAM-LV. Evaluation criteria. Design phase. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.
10. Evaluation criteria. Construction phase. Maintenance phase. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.
11. Introduction to the latest construction technologies and solutions in Latvia and in the world. Practical examples. 1h lecture, 2h practical works.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Regular work in the classroom, including 2 Test Works, report, presentation, practical works, test.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

1. Report on state-of-the-art construction technology solutions.
2. Presentation on the topic of the report at the student conference.
3. Practical works.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The evaluation of the study course exam depends on the cumulative evaluation of the study course tests, presentation and report, as well as practical work. The examination mark is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the marks of the tests, presentations and reports, and the assessment of the examination questions.
