Course abstract

National precise levelling network of Latvia, its history of development, situation today and necessity of restoration. Bench marks for strengthening network points, their installation. Instruments and levelling staff for precize levelling. Control, adjustment and investigation of instruments. Sources of levelling errors, their elimination. Methods of 1st and 2nd order levelling. Levelling across water courses. Correction of measured height differences according to the length of scale of staff and transition to normal height system. Adjusment of levelling network, calculation of height of poin.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing the course student will have:
• knowledge on national precise leveling network, applied instruments and accessories in leveling, Class I and II leveling methodology, possible sources of error, the measurement result processing and accuracy assessment;
• skills prior leveling determine the instruments examination and regulation; to comply the Class I and II leveling and assess the accuracy of measurement;
• competence organize precise leveling according to instructions requirements, depending on the terrain condition choose the suitable site and suitable leveling rod support devices, to be able to detect and avoid possible measurement errors.
