Course abstract

The aim of the study course is to get an idea of the modern land management and land policy system, its goals and objectives. The program provides insight into land policy implementation activities and measures, promotes sustainable land use and protection. The study course provides insight and knowledge about the theoretical and practical aspects of land management: on the sustainable use and development of land based on certain goals, as well as the systematic acquisition of information and experience to sustain these activities; on the management of land as a valuable resource and an object of real estate rights in connection with land use planning

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Upon completion of the study course, the student:
• Knows land management, its content, role and tasks, the role of land management systems and land policy in its processes. Knows the importance of land as an object of natural resources and real estate rights in the development and planning of sustainable land use, the importance of the public sector in these processes;
• Is able to perform land management and land policy activities at the state and local government level;
• Able to get involved and solve problems in the processes of sustainable land use and development.
Theoretical knowledge will be tested and assessed in tests and homework, but skills and abilities will be acquired and assessed in laboratory work and seminars.

Course Content(Calendar)

Full-time studies:
1. Content of the study course “Land Management”, study process and requirements. Literature and main normative acts (1 h)
2. Concept, goals and tasks of land management and land policy (1 h)
Seminar 1 - The concept of land management and land policy, their understanding, goals and tasks (2 h)
3. Land as a resource and object of property rights in land management (2 h)
4. Principles and conditions of land use and protection. Obligations of land users (2 h)
Laboratory work 1 - Land use indicators, their analysis (2 h)
5. Land use categories. Conditions for changing the land use category (1 h)
Laboratory work 2 - Selection and analysis of land use data in a selected municipality (2 h)
6. Actors involved in land management and their cooperation (1 h)
7. Basic information on land management (1 h)
Workshop 2 - Basic information on land management and actors involved (2 h)
8. Competence of state institutions and local governments in land management (2h)
9. Land monitoring in the territory of municipalities (1 h)
10. Spatial development and land use planning (2 h)
10. Land for provision of public infrastructure and access in the territory of the municipality (1 h)
Laboratory work 3 - Analysis of providing access and solutions in the parish (2 h)
11. Brownfields, their identification and use in municipal territories (2 h)
Workshop 3 - Sustainable land management. Rational use and planning of land resources (2h)
Laboratory work 4 - Degradation prevention solutions (2 h)
12. International land management (1 h)
Seminar 4 - Land Management at the International Level (2 h)
Test of theory (1 h)

Part-time studies:
All topics specified for full-time studies are implemented, but the number of contact hours is 1/2 of the specified number of hours

Requirements for awarding credit points

A test with a mark, it consists of:
• test;
• performance of laboratory work;
• completion of homework;
• presentations as well as participation in seminars

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Studies of scientific and educational literature (publications of monographs, scientific articles, conferences and seminars). Research of normative acts on the relevant topic of the seminar.
Before each seminar, the results of the independent work should be designed and submitted in Word or PowerPoint format (according to the lecturer's instructions), the volume should be up to 5 pages. or 10 slides (homework).

3. Sustainable land management. Rational use and planning of land resources
4. Land management at the international level

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The cumulative assessment of the test consists of:
• evaluation of a written test of theory;
• successful completion of laboratory work (without evaluation);
• homework (results of independent work) - quality;
• evaluation of participation in seminars
