Course abstract

Students learn how to create a federated BIM model by combining 3D models of different disciplines of a construction project into a single model. Visual and automated collision analysis is performed for the federated model. Within the course, students combine the building model developed in the “Architecture II” course with the models developed in the course “Heating and Ventilation” and “Water Supply and Sewerage”. Students get acquainted with the basic principles of void reservation for engineering networks and aligning with other disciplines.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

1. Student understands the basic principles and processes of the federated BIM model, knows the terminology lecture;
2. Is able to prepare a federated BIM model from several project disciplines - laboratory work;
3. Able to perform visual and automated collision analysis, prepare a clash check report - laboratory work;
4. Development and preparation of void reservation information for other disciplines of the project - practical work;
5. Information quality and content accordance to the project task - practical work.

Course Content(Calendar)

Requirements for awarding credit points

The student must attend at least 85% of classes. All practical works must be credited.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Student conducts research of literature and internet resources on the types of workflows of federated BIM models, using combinations of different software used in the industry. For example, workflow Revit-Archicad, Revit-Tekla, Archicad-Tekla-Revit, etc.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The evaluation of the study course is formed from the arithmetic mean evaluation of all practical works.
Practical work is evaluated in accordance with the evaluation procedure specified in the practical work tasks. If a student submits a practical work after the deadline, its assessment can reach 50% of the maximum possible.
