Course abstract

Students will gain knowledge of the classification of ornamental plants used in greenery, especially winter crops and ecological requirements. Knowledge about the use of ecological and biological properties of ornamentals is acquired, creating a single composite solution according to the project development rationale. Acquires knowledge and skills in green planting.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

1. Knowledge of assortment of perennials, economic, economic and aesthetic significance of their use. Skills to practically analyze and evaluate phenotypic traits of perennials, determine their aesthetic value and identify - Colloquium 1,2;
2. Competence to evaluate and substantiate the manifestations of the interaction of ornamental plants with the environment, to judge the suitability of the plant to certain ecological conditions, and, if necessary, to justify the replacement of the plant species with another more suitable species - Control work.

1. Classification of perennials, ecology and types of growth( 2h).
2. Assortment of perennials (A-G) ( 2h).
3. Assortment of perennials (H-N) ( 2h).
4. Assortment of perennials (O-W) ( 2h).
5. Herbaceous perennials, selection of perennials on different soils (near water reservoirs, under large trees, etc.) ( 2h).
6. 1. Colloquium: Identification of perennials (in Latvian, Latin) by herbaricized materials (A-K) ( 2h).
7. Bulb, tuber and tuberous flowers to be used in plantations, their selection and care( 2h).
8. Bulb, tuber and tuberous bulbs, their selection and care, to be used in plantations( 2h).
9. 2. Colloquium: Identification of perennials (in Latvian, Latin) by herbaricized materials (L-Z) ( 2h).
10. Types of plantings by function, by decorative features, by growing conditions. Plantation stylistics( 2h).
11. Examination of the most relevant and suitable material of Latvian climate plantations in nurseries and public plantation territories( 2h).
12. Grouping of greenery of public territories and specifics of its installation and care( 2h).
13. Test: Perennials and bulbs, cucurbits.u.c. ecological requirements, breakdown by type of use and phenotypic characteristics. Viewing of the most relevant and suitable material of Latvian climate greenery in private greenery territories. Planning of private greenery and specifics of its installation and care( 2h).
14. Basic principles of lawn selection, installation and care( 2h).
15. Conditions for selection of perennial planting material, planting and care( 2h).
16. Practice of installation of environmental objects, greenery, transfer of plan in nature, attraction, basic principles of installation and care( 2h).

Requirements for awarding credit points

Written test with mark.
At least 75% attendance at classes. Independent works developed, submitted and positively evaluated within the set time. Colloquiums and test successfully passed. For works submitted after the deadline (unless there is a valid reason), the mark is reduced by 1 point. It is also possible to accumulate a test, the criteria of which are determined by the course manager.

Test: Perennials and bulbs, cucurbits.u.c. ecological requirements, breakdown by type of use and phenotypic characteristics. Viewing of the most relevant and suitable material of Latvian climate greenery in private greenery territories. Planning of private greenery and specifics of its installation and care.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The assessment of the study course test depends on the assessment of the test and the cumulative assessment of individual papers, colloquia and tests.
Students who have submitted independent papers, completed a colloquium and a test at the specified time, with a grade of not less than 5 points, can obtain the accumulative credit mark consisting of the above-mentioned average arithmetic mark.
