Course abstract

This course is intended to introduce students to the geographic information systems (GIS) software ESRI ArcGIS Desktop that will be used in the implementation of design project. Students should be able to learn various ways how to represent geospatial data in GIS including vector and raster data models. This course will cover how to create, edit, and manage geospatial data and geodatabases. Students will apply methodologies and tools commonly used in the geospatial data analysis. Students will required to implement a design project.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• The course develops a knowledge and understanding in practical application of geographical information systems.
• The course enables students with an ability to formulate specific needs in the topic studied, critically evaluate the potential use of GIS and apply relevant GIS methods and tools for spatial problem-solving.
• The course elaborates a competence to create and apply geospatial data and geodatabases in other study courses and research approaches.
