Course abstract

The aim of study course is to give understanding and knowledge about trade management of new and second-hand automobiles. The course of studies supplies theoretical and practical knowledge in transport engineering service operations. Practical work is organized in the form of role plays. The acquired knowledge and skills can be used in organization and management of transport enterprises. Students get the view on foreign automobile producers and dealer companies in Latvia.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

The Master's student acquires in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge, understanding of the essence of driving processes, regularities and management methods in a road transport company, which correspond to the latest research and findings in the field of management, as well as extended knowledge, understanding of car trade organization and development. The acquired knowledge is the basis for further research and development of creative thinking (Tests 1, 2).
Skills - is able to independently use theory, methods and problem-solving skills to implement entrepreneurship in a road transport company (practical work).

Competence - the master student is able to independently critically analyze the problems related to the management of a road transport company, substantiate the decisions made. To contribute to the development of management methods for road transport companies (independent work - report and presentation PowerPoint).

3. Motivation in a road transport company, its essence, meaning and necessity. (1h - lecture, 1h - practical work)
4. Driving styles and risks in a road transport company. (1h - lecture)
5. The essence and significance of driving ethics, its use in road transport trade and service companies. (1h - lecture, 1h - practical work)
6. Decisions in road transport companies, their adoption. Decision making process and specifics in engineering. (1h - lecture, 1h - practical work)
7. Management efficiency in the engineering service. (1h - lecture)
8. Personnel policy of road transport companies. Human resources and their role in a road transport company. (1h - lecture, 1h - practical work)
9. Analysis of global car companies and promising car models. Car popularity and price dynamics. (1h - lecture, 1h - practical work)
10. Marketing cycle, set of events. (1h - lecture)
11. Sale of new and used cars. Analysis of car distribution channels. (1h - lecture, 1h - practical work)
12. Market segmentation and positioning of cars in the market. (1h - lecture, 1h - practical work)
13. Marketing planning stages, plan structure, budget and profit planning. (1h - lecture, 1h - practical work)
14. Analysis of car catalogs, brochures, manuals and car advertisements. (1h - practical work)

Requirements for awarding credit points

1. Successful evaluation in 2 tests.
2. Credits for practical classes.
3. Evaluation of reports in classes.

Accumulating test with a mark.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Preparation of a report on an individually selected topic and creation of a presentation.
Preparation for tests and practical work.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

1. A student obtains a successful mark in tests if answers to at least 50% of the questions are given.
2. Timely developed and defended practical works.
3. Presentation of the prepared report (assessment with a mark).

4. Final assessment - the accumulative test with a mark consists of: 2 successfully written tests, assessment of the report and passed practical works.
