Course abstract

Students get acquainted with theory of engine and ground motor vehicles. Parameters of effectiveness and power of engine, traction and dynamically calculations are inspected. Testing methodology of engines is overlooked and calculations are performed.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge and practically acquirements gives possibility to choose corresponding ground motor vehicle for specific operation conditions, to construct rational aggregates of agricultural machinery and to establish working conditions of them. Evaluation up to 10 points.

Course Content(Calendar)

1 Introduction to motor theory, basic engine performance, terminology.
2 Internal cycle of internal combustion piston engines, indicating diagrams. Otto cycle Diesel cycle. Mixed cycle.
3 Processes of the internal combustion piston engine: intake, compression, decomposition, expansion, exhaust.
4 Engine heat balance, key figures of the work cycle. Engine balancing.
5 Tractor performance. Motor speed curves. The propulsion dynamics. Driving moment, driving force.
6 Movement speed. Pneumatic wheel dynamics. Equation of motion, resistance forces.
7 Power balance. Tractor efficiency ratios. Tractive potential characteristic of the tractor. Dynamic characteristics of the runway.
8 Running and braking dynamics. Static and dynamic stability of the propeller. Gun control.
9 Running Relativity. Tractor passage. Agrotechnical excursion.
10 Fuel efficiency indicators, factors influencing them. Construction of cost-effectiveness charts.
11 Engine testing stands, hardware, methodology. Tractor testing equipment, hardware, methodology.
12 Engine regulation characteristic curves and speed characteristics, methods for obtaining and correcting them.
13 Airflow coefficient, its effect on the incineration process and the indicated power.
14 Indicative power, effective power determination methodology. Spread power balance.
15 Tractive potential trajectory of the tractor, its construction. Traction efficiency.
16 Comparison of propulsion and dynamic properties.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Laboratory works have been developed and defended, tests are successfully written. Examination.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Analysis of laboratory works.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

A student can get a successful check evaluation if at least 50% of the test questions are answered correctly. The examination mark is calculated as the mean of the arithmetic mean of the test work and the average grade of the examination test.
