Course abstract

The objective of the practice is to make possible for students to study and to analyse processes of building project start, planning, controlling, closing and multi-project management as well as use of software tools in project management in building company or organization. Students get acquainted with the principles of building project supervisions; master the program MS Project - program of Project management, which is widely used in making the calendar plans in construction area.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing the course student will have strengthened, expanded and systematized theoretical and practical knowledge and critical understanding of the building work processes, technology, building work planning, organizing and managing in the building site, to acquire the necessary skills in building management and organization of the site, receive training in building work in organizing the site.
• Knowledge - acquired an understanding of building project types, types of project phases. Acquired knowledge of the preparation of the project description.
• Skills - acquired skills to prepare the project description, the ability to work in a team, ability to use individual judgment, to perform independent analysis of the project, understand the regulatory restrictions, the ability to analyse laws and build the project control mechanisms. • Competence - students will have acquired professional competency, which allows developing and organizing projects in building companies.

1. Introduction to the course "Construction Entrepreneurship III" Introduction to construction project management. (1h)
2. Possibilities of using the computer program Microsoft Project in construction project management. (1h)
3. Project management terminology and basic concepts in construction management using the computer program Microsoft Project. (1h)
4. Types of construction management projects and their development possibilities using the computer program Microsoft Project. Test 1. (2h)
5. Getting acquainted with the creation of a project in construction management - the principles of developing a simplified calendar of construction works with Microsoft Project. (1h)
6. Working with Microsoft Project. (1h)
7. Gantt charts used in construction. Determining the mutual sequence of events. Construction grid schedules developed with Microsoft Project. (1h)
8. Types of events related to resource attraction. Attracting resources. Resource balancing. (1h)
9. Getting acquainted with the creation of more complex construction management projects in the Microsoft Project program. Test 2. (2h)
10. Introduction to practical work - Creating a calendar schedule for the design period. (1h)
11. Introduction to practical work - development of construction work calendar (time) schedule in construction projects in DVP and BOP section. (1h) 12. End of the course. Summary of results. Industry news.(1h)

Requirements for awarding credit points

2 tests must be completed; all laboratory work and practical work must be completed and defended.

Independently develop laboratories and practical work according to individual tasks.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The student is able to prove the acquired knowledge and skills on project management principles in construction, construction work planning, organization and management on the construction site, acquired skills in compiling a construction work calendar using MS Project program, developing and defending laboratories and practical work (70%), performing 2 tests ( 30%). The overall rating is a test (100%).
