The study course is aimed to give general understanding about the use of reinforced concrete in building structures. It includes material properties, durability assessment, use limit state design method, detailing and graphical representation of the structures. The main methods of section analysis and simplified serviceability assessment are acquired.
Knowledge: Students will gain knowledge about the basics of reinforced concrete structures, material properties, and section analysis of reinforced concrete elements under bending – lectures and individual work.
Skills: Students will be able to determine necessary longitudinal and transversal reinforcement and to evaluate the section capacity of concrete beams and slabs – individual work.
Competence: Students will be able to determinate effective spots for reinforcement at simple concrete slab of beam – lectures and test.
1. Lecture: Introduction. Course overview. Reinforced concrete in building structures; History of development. (2h)
2. Practical lessons: Calculation of tension reinforcement at simple reinforced concrete beam. (2h)
3. Lecture: Mechanical properties of the materials (concrete, reinforcing steel, fibre reinforced polymer rebars). (2h)
4. Practical lessons: Calculation of tension reinforcement at T section reinforced concrete beam. (2h)
5. Lecture: Moment capacity of singly reinforced beam section; determination of tensile reinforcement. (2h)
6. Practical lessons: Calculation of tension and compression reinforcement at simple reinforced concrete beam. (2h)
7. Lecture: Analysis of doubly reinforced concrete beam sections. (2h)
8. Practical lessons: Calculation of shear reinforcement at simple reinforced concrete beam. (2h)
9. Lecture: Analysis of T-section concrete beams. (2h)
10. Practical lessons: Calculation of shear reinforcement at reinforced concrete slab. (2h)
11. Lecture: Shear capacity of concrete beams. (2h)
12. Practical lessons: Punching shear capacity of slab.
13. Lecture: Punching shear capacity of slabs. (2h)
14. Practical lessons: Calculation of reinforcement at reinforced concrete foundation footing.
15. Lecture: Rules for detailing of concrete structures. (2h)
16. Practical lessons: cover layer calculation for multiple reinforced concrete structures according to Eurocode 2. (2h)
1. Lectures must be atended (80% or more);
2. Independent work must be complete and confirmed by the responsible university lecturer.
Independent works. Students carry out their individuals works according to individual task. Students have to calculate and design simple reinforced concrete structures, collect all calculations report and made sketch for reinforced concrete.
To pass the course, all the requirements regarding the attendance must be fulfilled.
Independent work have to be completed and confirmed.
If the total attendance of a student is less than 80% of the maximum possible, additional independent works will be assigned.
