Course abstract
TThe study course is aimed at the development of students’ foreign language (Russian) knowledge and skills necessary for professional and daily communication (meeting, greeting, invitations, asking, answering questions), reading and evaluating professional information and standard documents. Developing communication skills The English language proficiency level corresponds at least level A2- B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for foreign languages.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge - linguistic knowledge according to foreign language acquisition level A1 - vocabulary formed by frequently used words and phrases that relate particular situations, some simple constructions and models of sentence have been memorized. Sociocultural knowledge - related to the body language, everyday life, e.g., working hours of shops and institutions, arrangement of informal meetings.
Skills - students are able to use knowledge and communicative skills, that includes reading, speech, listening and writing skills according to the level of foreign language acquisition. Competence - formation of Russian language communicative competence has been started regarding students. Linguistic competence is sufficient for understanding and use of simple expressions and basic phrases required for the provision of particular needs. Sociolinguistic competence is sufficient for correct selection and use of greetings, forms of speech, words “please” and “thank you”.

Requirements for awarding credit points
Assessment: Formal test with a grade.
It is made up of cumulative assessment. Successfully written 2 tests, the glossary of terms for each topic, timely completed home works, completed individual work (reading of professional texts, presentation on a selected topic, the glossary of terms). Tests and home works are with a positive evaluation. The number of the missed classes shall not exceed 20%.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Individual work:
1.Reading of the independently chosen professional texts (the amount: 5 000 characters);
2.Prepared PPoint presentation and oral presentation (5minutes) in front of the class; Submitted glossary of terms (20 terms translation, 15 definitions).
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The cumulative assessment is composed of the grades in two tests and a presentation of the individual work. The grade in tests is successful if at least 70% of the answers are correct. All home works should receive a successful grade.
