Course abstract
Introduction to the methods and techniques of engineering geological field work and practical skills and techniques in the identification of soils, and estimation of their index properties under field conditions. Systematic observations and data collection for construction of geological cross-sections, maps, report writing for engineering geological assessment. Interpretation of field data to understand relationships between geology, relief and sediments and soils, and .site conditions.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Understands engineering geological field research methods and is able to apply them. Able to judge the geological structure of specific places, peculiarities of relief and hydrological conditions, engineering geological conditions.
After getting acquainted with the data of geological research, can describe study site engineering-geological situation, to constract a geological section.
Competences - independent decision-making on various issues related to engineering geology.
Rating:
1. Quality of field and cameral works, logic of conclusions, ability of student to participate in discussions.
2. Report and defense, in which the student must be able to formulate the answer in relation to the field practice report, which includes previous knowledge, skills and competencies.
Course Content(Calendar)
1. Description of the geological structure of the research site - 8h;
2. Study of the geological situation in the research area - 20h.
3. Evaluation of soil and engineering geological processes, preparation of practice report - 12h;
Requirements for awarding credit points
Test in grade 1-10.

The test points is formed cumulatively:
• quality of field and kameral works;
• field-practice report;
• logic of conclusions and ability to engage in discussion;
• ability to formulate answers in relation to the tasks performed and the field-practice report.
The student is admitted to the final examination - defense of the practice report, if all field and kameral works have been performed, the practice report has been submitted and accepted.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Students independently carry out field and cameral works assigned by the lecturer. At the end of the work, students gather practical and theoretical knowledge by preparing a progress report.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The lecturer evaluates the quality of field and cameral work, the logic of conclusions and the ability to engage in discussion during the training. The student must be able to formulate answers in connection with the progress report and defend it.
