Course abstract
Human health and environment. Legislation of Latvia. EU and other international organizations. Pollutants. Impact to environment assessment.Economy of energy. Pollution of air, water and atmosphere. Dangerous wastes.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
After completing the course student will have: knowledge theory about environment protection, topicality and legislation; understanding of national, municipal and corporate actions on environmental protection, regulations about use of environmental resources and requirements of the environmental performance in case of polluting activities (test); skills ability to manage the environmental terminology and to identify and evaluate main pollutants of the environment (practical works); competence knowledge and practical skills about environment protection and sustainable development are acquired in the context of laws and regulations (practical works).
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Own-initiative work: 1. Analyse and assess the waste balance of one sector of the economy: relation to the final product, possible uses. 2. Protection of the environment of the international, state and non-governmental organisation.
