| Course abstract | |
| Master students obtain an in-depth knowledge about biodiversity conservation importance and challenges ofspecies and habitats conservation in Latvia, including the specially protected natural sites and sites and sites for biodiversity conservation. As well as national and EU biodiversity strategy, biodiversity, national programs and bio-environment monitoring, the most important protected habitats, sustainable development in the world and in Latvia, sustainable use of natural resources to develop various sectors of the economy. | |
| Learning outcomes and their assessment | |
| • Knowledge and understanding of biodiversity essence, necessity of its conservation and the exercise and the importance of biodiversity for sustainable development of community;
• Skills to define, critically assess the habitat protection provision in Latvian, showing awareness of the invaluable role of habitat for biodiversity conservation, and the development of biodiversity protection; • Competence - to choose and when necessary dispose the economic measures that are essentially ensuring conservation of biodiversity, to make analysis of problematic situation and find optimal solution. |
