| Course abstract | |
| Master students obtain thorough knowledge of the biodiversity that is variability among life organisms in terrestrial and aquatic environments, and its various levels, including species, ecosystems, landscapes and genetic diversity. Course includes knowledge of the role of biodiversity and objectives of national and EU biodiversity strategy, the national policy to preserve biological diversity, the European Council habitats Directive. | |
| Learning outcomes and their assessment | |
| • Knowledge and understanding of biodiversity essence, necessity of its conservation and the exercise and the importance of biodiversity for sustainable development of community;
• Skills to define, critically assess the habitat protection provision in Latvian, showing awareness of the invaluable role of habitat for biodiversity conservation, and the development of biodiversity protection; • Competence - to choose and dispose the economic measures that are essentially ensuring conservation of biodiversity. |
