Course abstract | |
The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of the microscopic structure and functions of cells, tissues and different organs of animal organisms.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge - student has mastered the theoretical knowledge of the histological structure of various organs and organ systems (digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, urogenital, immune, nervous and endocrine systems, skin and sensory organs). Six colloquia.
Skills - student is able to recognize, describe and explain the structure of cells, tissues and organs visible in histological preparations and their specific features in a light microscope. Laboratory work. Competences - the student is able to analyze, compare and evaluate independently the histological preparations of different organs. Understands the regularities of the structure of organs and organ systems and their functional significance. Laboratory work. |

Requirements for awarding credit points
Six colloquia and an exam must have been passed successfully. Unfulfilled laboratory works must be mastered as agreed with the lecturer.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Independent work is accomplished by obliging students to prepare answers to specific questions independently for each colloquium. Independent work performance is controlled during the response to the colloquia; its questions are included in the exam.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
Colloquia are assessed by pass/fail. In order to be allowed to take an exam, all colloquia must be passed (student must be able to identify and describe a histological specimen under a microscope, as well as to answer at least 60% of the theory; to pass the colloquium, there must be no significant mistakes). The exam is an oral one. At the beginning, the student must be able to recognize two histological samples. The student may continue the exam and take a ticket only if these samples are recognized. According to the criteria of the 10 point system scale indicated in the LBTU Study Regulations, the student's ability to describe two histological samples and theoretical knowledge about the questions presented on the ticket are evaluated
