Course abstract | |
Small Animal Internal Medicine deal with diseases of organ systems: Cardiovascular disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Gastrointestinal disorders, Genitourinary disorders, Endocrine and metabolic disorders, Dermatological disorders, basics of Oftalmology, Emergencies and critical care in the small animal (dogs and cats) practice. Students acquire knowledges about the etiology of diseases, pathogenesis, clinical signs, the use of different diagnostic methods and treatment possibilities. | |
Learning outcomes and their assessment | |
Knowledge: basic knowledge about diseases of different organ systems, clinical signs, diagnostic tools and treatment – 8 tests
Skills of getting anamnesis, evaluating of the clinical status of animal and choosing the appropriate diagnostic methods depending from clinical signs – laboratory works, independent works Competence of diagnosing diseases and determing the appropriate treatment plan – laboratory works, independent work. |

Requirements for awarding credit points | |
Successfully completed seven tests and individual tasks, in end of semester final test. Absence of lectures and practical works are not more than 30% of the total number of lessons. If unjustifiably missed lectures and laboratory works are more than 30% of the total number of lessons, then the course must be repeated. | |
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work | |
Home works are evaluated in accordance with the tasks of the laboratory works. | |
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes | |
The study course tests are evaluated in accordance with the criteria of the 10 point system scale indicated in the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies Study Regulations. To get the final test, all tests must be successfully completed and independent/home works must be done. | |
