| Large animal surgery I shall examine surgical diseases by animal species (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs), by body area, their aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, diagnostics, differential diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Looks at the anatomy of the feet and phalanges, position, animal hoof care and examination, hoof diseases. | |

| Knowledge: of livestock diseases in surgical diagnosis, theoretical and practical knowledge of operations and postoperative care of animals – colloquium.
Skills: to analyze each case individually before clinical investigation of the animal. Investigation of animal and clinical diagnosis. Skills to assess the future of the animal treatment – practical works. Competency: combine the knowledge and skills, and further use in veterinary practice. Interpret the results of clinical cases. – Practical works. |

| 1.Introductory lecture in the farm animals surgery - basic principles of diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases. Surgical restraint of livestock. Ruminants and pigs anesthesia (regional, general, epidural). Lectures – 1h.
2.Head region surgery diseases - cornuectomy, sinusitis. Actinomycosis. nasal region surgeries. Ophthalmology (Blepharectomy, enucleation of the eye, corneal wounds, ulcers, infectious keratoconjunctivitis). Ear, mouth surgical diseases. Lectures – 1h ; practical work -2h. 3.Neck region surgery diseases - tracheotomy, tracheo wash, phlebitis. Choking, Esophagostomy. Lectures – 1h ; practical work -2h. 4.Breast region surgical diseases - Rib resection. Traumatic pericarditis. Lectures – 1h. 5.Abdominal region surgical diseases - exploratory laparotomy, biopsy of liver. LDA, RTA, RDA. Intestinal obstruction. Rumenotomy. Temporary rumen fistula. Cesarean section. Mammary surgery. Hernias. Urethrostomy. Lectures – 4h ; practical work -4h. 6.Pelvis region surgical diseases - Fracture..Rectal prolapse. Vaginal prolapse. Uterus prolapse. Lectures – 2h ; practical work -2h. 7.Andrology - Castaration. Surgical preperation of Teaser animals. Lectures – 2h ; practical work -2h. 8.Foot and claw surgery - Lameness detection. Anesthesia. | Requirements for awarding credit points | |
| Before performing each surgical operation and surgical manipulations, the surgical technique must be answered orally. All practical work hours have been attended. The number of not attended lectures does not exceed 10% of the total number of lectures. Passed a successful colloquium, after which a test was obtained. ( written or verbal). | |

| Literature studies on surgical diseases of livestock, operations, analysis of practical results. Optional possibility to go to the farms in small groups for surgical operations and manipulations. | |
| Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes | |
| Students' knowledge and skills are assessed in accordance with the procedures specified in the tasks of the practical works. In order to obtain the final grade of the study course "passed", the student must demonstrate his knowledge and skills in practical works and successfully pass the colloquium. | |
