Course abstract
Students gain knowledge about the nature of business, business environment, innovative, small, and medium-sized business, forms of commercial activity. Is competent in the use of capital and investment in business. Acquires skills for starting a business, planning, and organizing the company's activities.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge.
1. Knows the essence of entrepreneurship, understands the concepts – practical work.
2. Has knowledge of the principles of entrepreneurship, legal norms, is able to analyse the situation and solve business problems in Latvia – situation analysis.
3. Has mastered the theoretical foundations and understands business processes; has the knowledge to perform the necessary actions for starting and developing a business – practical and independent work, test.
Skills.
1. Skills to assess the company's operating environment and the factors influencing it – practical and independent work.
2. Skills to explain and argue about the business environment, medium and small businesses, as well as the company's development cycle – discussion in class.
3. Is able to use theoretical knowledge about entrepreneurship and justify the company's goals – practical work, test.
4. Is able to rationally organize work in a company – practical work.
5. Is able to explain and discuss the company's operations – discussion in class.
6.Able to justify and express conclusions about entrepreneurship, offer solutions – independent and practical work.
Competence.
1.Able to explain and present the results of one's work in a reasoned manner – independent and practical work. 2.Able to critically analyse business processes and justify decisions – situation analysis; exam.

1. Nature of business, commercial activity (lecture – 1 hour).
2. Business environment and its characteristics, analysis (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 1 hour).
3. Legal basis of entrepreneurship and commercial activity, commercial law (lecture – 1 hour; practical work 1 hour).
4. Forms of commercial activity, European commercial companies (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 1 hour).
5. Life cycle of the company, development opportunities (lecture – 1 hour).
6. Small (micro) and medium business (lecture – 1 hour).
7. Cooperation, integration, and cooperation of companies (lecture – 1 hour).
8. Product idea and product planning (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 2 hours).
9. Market, target market of the company (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 2 hours).
10. Starting a business and establishing a company (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 2 hours).
11. Organizational forms of the company, delegation of duties (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 1 hour).
12. Company personnel (lecture – 1 hour).
13. Company reorganization (lecture – 1 hour).
14. Company insolvency and insolvency solutions (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 1 hour).

23. Marketing, marketing communications plan (lecture – 1 hour: practical work – 2 hours).
24. Investments and their importance in business (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 1 hour).
25. Evaluation of the company's economic activity (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 2 hours).
26. Innovations in business (lecture – 1 hour).
27. Digital transformation of business, types, and techniques (lecture – 1 hour; practical work – 1 hour).
28. Business model CANVAS (lecture – 1st hour). In part-time correspondence studies: all topics specified in full-time correspondence studies are implemented, but the number of contact hours is ½ of the specified number of hours.
Requirements for awarding credit points
At the end of the study course, an exam is taken (40 points). Students who successfully complete practical (10 points) and independent work (10 points) during the study course and successfully write 2 tests (40 points) during the semester are allowed to take the exam.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Within the study course, 79 hours are allocated for independent studies, which are organized as follows: preparation for the exam (30 hours); preparation for practical work and 2 tests (49 hours).
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The assessment of the study course depends on 2 tests, practical and independent work, and an exam. 10 points make up 1 grade.
