| Course abstract | |
| The course provides students with an understanding of the substance, processes and factors of economic management. Students acquire the knowledge of the classification of production resources and the role and use of the resources in an agricultural enterprise. The course builds up the knowledge of techniques for calculating business profitability and of production costs as well as of the role and calculation of contribution margins and skills in drawing up a production plan and assessing the performance of the plan in an agricultural enterprise. | |

2.Agriculture as an economic sector. (Lecture - 1 hour) 3.Agricultural enterprise. (Lecture - 1 hour) 4.Extensive, intensive and rational manufacture. (Lecture - 1 hour) 5.Production specialization and diversification in an agricultural enterprise. (Lecture-1 hour, practical work - 4 hour) 6.Division of productive resources, their nature and importance in farming (Lecture- 1 hour) 7.Natural (land) resources. Analysis of land use patterns on a farm. (Lecture- 1 hour, practical work - 2 hours) 8.Capital, its essence and division – fixed capital, working capital, its characteristics. (Lecture- 1 hour) 9.Human resources. Labour and work. Productivity and labour intensity. (Lecture- 1 hour) 10.Production costs and their formation. Economic and accounting profit generation in a company. (Lecture- 1 hour, practical work - 4 hours) 11.Calculation of opportunity costs. (Practical work– 2 hours) 12.First test. (1 hour) 13.Determining the profitability of farming. Gross margin, its calculation. (Lecture- 3 hours, practical work - 4 hours) 14.Break even point (Lecture- 1 hour, practical work - 1 hour) 15.Conditions for the establishment of a production plan for the crop sector. | Requirements for awarding credit points | |
| Examination.
The final mark consists of the following pieces of assessment: •two tests (maximum 20 points; 10 points each); •development and presentation of a production plan for an agricultural holding (30 points); •examination for all the topics (40 points); •activity during lectures (5 points); •registered lecture attendance (5 points). A score of 10 is equal to one point on a 10 - point marking scale. A production plan must be developed and defended before taking the examination. |
