Course abstract | |
The aim of the study course is to provide insight into basis of the European Union Policy and the legal system; focus on the development of the structure and the nature of the EU. The course will provide theoretical aspects of integration and policy process questions. In conclusion students will have understanding about the political process and the functioning of the legal system of EU. | |
Learning outcomes and their assessment | |
The following learning outcomes students will reach during a course:
1) Knowledge of EU historical and theoretical foundations; integration process theories; the EU legal systems foundation (the EU sources; the general legal principles); the EU institutions and their operation; the decision-making procedure; the main EU policies. 2) Skills - to explain the basics of EU development; to analyse the effects of the legal system of the Member States of the EU; to desribe the EU decision-making procedures and the interest groups in the EU, to describe the main EU Policies; to analyze the EU constitutional future challenges. 3) Competence - to predict and to assess the development of the EU in the context of the enlargement; to assess the effects of the Lisbon Treaty to Member States; to analyze individual EU policies impact on Latvian situation; to assess the EU agenda questions development and visions of the future. |
