Course abstract
Adult Education course promotes understanding of adult learning in the context of lifelong learning. The course deals with adult education activities and developments in Latvia and EU. The course evaluates adult education policy documents. The course compares the adult and student education. It promotes the ability to analyse, evaluate and solve problems. Students develop skills to prepare adult training program curriculum. Students learn to link theory to real life, discuss, defend their views and develop a scientific style of work.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge- able to: understand and explain the adult education concepts and patterns, illustrate and summarize adult learning in Latvia and Europe, discuss and explain the adult education basic documents in Latvia and EU in the context of lifelong learning – Seminars and Practical works (reflections).
Skills- able to: analyse and to evaluate adult education theories according practice; discuss and defend own viewpoint, develop a scientific style - Theory overview. Competence- able to: develop adult education program; choose and evaluate the training content, forms, methods and means of dealing with adults; independently compare and analyse the teaching in school and adult education; able to act creatively and solve problems in adult education; able to implement adult education in accordance with the Latvian and the EU's guidelines for lifelong learning - Independent home work

Requirements for awarding credit points
Oral examination or cumulative assessment of semester work.

Exam evaluation in the case of a semester cumulative assessment consists of:
1. Attendance of contact lessons.
2. Participation in seminars and workshops (reflections) during classes which will be evaluated by the "pass / fail".
3. Submitted and defended individual independent home works, which will be evaluated by the "pass / fail". 4. Presented and defended theory overview, which will be evaluated in the 10-balls system.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
• An adult education program has been developed and presented.
• An overview of existing continuing education courses for adult education has been prepared. • Theory overview has been prepared and defended - presentation on adult learning theories and adult learning methods.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The exam will be evaluated in the 10-balls system.
Evaluation criteria:
1. Understanding of the theoretical approaches in adult education according to the content of the course.
2. Compliance of the developed program with the requirements.
3. Presentation skills. 4. Labour organization skills - inclusion in deadlines.
