Course abstract | |
The study course introduces to the technology, machinery and other working tools which are used and recommended for forest wetland management. The main object of cognition is technology appropriate to the ecosystem and possible to save it. End of the course work is a technological plan, depending on the conditions. | |
Learning outcomes and their assessment | |
After studying the course the student will have:
• Knowledge of the relevant activities in wetland forest husbandry,using the methods to be able to keep this forest ecosystem properties. • Skills the ability to predict consequences and analyse how to avoid wetland forest ecosystem irreversible damage, as the result of forest husbandry activities, and to control the suitability of technological planning in the stated forest conditions. • Competence to explain and justify the proposals for different working operations by technological methods, or to improve the results to be obtained, and their usefulness in wetland forests. |

1 Introduction. Wet and other fragile bottom forests. Swamp in the forest.
2 Forest hydrological regime, its regulation. 3 Peculiarities of soil, possibilities of moving machinery. Peculiarities of seasonality in volatile bottom forests. 4 Soil preparation for reforestation in fragile soil forests: technology, techniques, techniques, most appropriate time. 5 Care of young stands in wet forests, technologies, techniques, techniques and evaluation of results. 6 Care felling in wet forests, technologies, techniques, techniques and evaluation of results. 7 Main uses of felling technology, technique, techniques in wet forests. Evaluation of results. 8 Planning of organizational measures in the management of wet forests. 9 Peculiarities of technical damage assessment in forests 10 Equipment running gear adaptation possibilities and techniques for working with wet forests. 11 Methods of action in critical conditions during work in wet forests. 12 Peculiarities of work planning in wet forests. 13 Preparation of an essay on the selected management work experience and evaluation in the conditions of fragile forest soil. 14 Practical field seminar on soil transfer in logging in Jelgava forest district. 15 Linking the peculiarities of management technologies in the conditions of wet forests with the potential topic of the master's thesis. 16 Analysis of work technology in wet forest conditions (essay presentation and defense). |

Requirements for awarding credit points | |
Attendance of lectures and participation in seminars 90% of the total amount, written and defended essay on the peculiarities of forest management works, successfully passed the exam | |
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work | |
Independently strengthen the knowledge according to the content of the lectures. Completion of the tasks of practical work received and started to perform in the classroom classes is allowed during the time provided for independent studies. | |
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes | |
The criterion is the percentage compliance with the 10-point grading scale. The assessment in any of the study results must not be less than 50% of 8 points, or it must be at least 4 points. | |
