Course abstract
Silviculture consists of two parts. First part- forest ecology. Relationships and their types. Consortium. Ecological capacity and niche. Overpopulation of ecosystem. Biological diversity. Forest structure elements, their functioning and interaction. Succession, ecological and economical importance. Typology of the bogs of Latvia. Ecological and economical importance of bogs. Classification of meadows.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
During studies students gain knowledge about tree and environment as a whole, in which proceed interaction, insisting self-contradictions, that is a reason of development, changing quantitative and qualitative indications. After study course students are able to analyze ecosystems of different age and types, count and assess forest stand dendrometric parameters. Are able to classify trees in stand. To assess influence of biotic and abiotic factors on the different age and type forest stands. Able to distribute different types of ecosystems. After course of studies, students are competent in evaluation of different forest ecosystems, also are able to argue its degree of risk. Are able to take a part in discussions about influence of abiotic and biotic factors on forest ecosystems.
