Course abstract
The aim of the study course is to introduce students with importance of animals in organic farming, livestock management and nutrition aspects. Students get knowledge in optimization of feed ration of cow, beef cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and poultry. Students learn the principles of determination of animal welfare, acquire the disease control opportunities.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
After completing the course student will have:
• knowledge of livestock management and nutrition aspects in organic farming – independent works, final test;
• skills in optimization of feed ration of cow, beef cattle, pigs, poultry in organic farming system – practical works;
• competences in auditing of organic enterprises – independent work.

9. Feed requirement, planning of feed. 2h
10. Livestock breeding and management technologies. 2h
11. Livestock welfare and behaviour. 2h
12. Reauirement of Food and Veterinary cervice and Certification body in Oragnic livestock farm. 2h
13. Quality criterias for organic farming. 2h
14. Livestock products. Requirements for quality. 2h
15. Marketing of organic livestock products. Labeling. 2h

Requirements for awarding credit points
Regular attendance of lectures and practical works. Successfully written and presented independent work on the topics of practical work. Successfully passed a test with a mark. Accumulative mark.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
2 independent works:
1) A report and presentation on the possibilities of alternative vetmedicine in organic livestock farming;
2) Evaluation of the livestock holding according to the evaluation form of the Organic Enterprise and 2 presentations about legislation and situation in home country.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
1st independent work is evaluated with 2 marks - for a report and for a presentation; (20% + 20%)
2nd independent work is evaluated with one mark; (20%)
The final test with 20 questions is evaluated with a mark (40%). Average evaluation is calculated.
