Course abstract
The aim of the study course is to provide students with knowledge, skills, and competence in business organization. Students gain an understanding of the nature of entrepreneurship, micro, small and medium entrepreneurship, innovative entrepreneurship, and finance. Understands the importance of risk in business. Gains practical skills in starting and planning a business.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge - about micro, small and medium, innovative entrepreneurship, business environment, forms of business. Knowledge of company establishment, reorganization, liquidation - permanent and practical works; test.
Skills - can prepare company founding documents, assess business risks and apply their management methods. Able to evaluate innovations in an argumentative manner, suggest solutions for the introduction of innovations in business, provide an assessment of the company's economic activity - practical work. Competences - knowledge and practical skills are acquired to analyse and evaluate the company's operations, be able to explain the problems hindering development and give their solutions - constant and practical work; tests.
Course Content(Calendar)
Full time intramural studies:
1. The essence and basic concepts of entrepreneurship (commercial activity) (Lecture - 1 hour).
2. Business environment and its development aspects (Lecture - 1 hour; practical works - 1 hour).
3. Micro, small, and medium business (Lecture - 1 hour; practical work - 1 hour).
4. Tax and fee system of the Republic of Latvia (Lecture - 1 hour; practical works - 1 hour).
5. Legal forms of commercial activity and factors characterizing their choice (Lecture - 1 hour; practical works - 1 hour).
6. Innovation entrepreneurship (Lecture - 1 hour; practical work - 1 hour).
7. Risk factor in business (Lecture - 1 hour; practical work - 1 hour).
8. Generation, evaluation, definition, and development of business ideas (Lecture - 1 hour; practical work - 1 hour).
9. Business planning and business plan (Lecture - 1 hour; practical work - 1 hour).
Test 10 (Practical work - 1 hour).
11. Starting a business and founding a company (Lecture - 1 hour; practical work - 1 hour).
12. Salary platforms and salary organization (Lecture - 1 hour; practical works - 1 hour).
13. Company life cycle (Lecture - 1 hour; practical work - 1 hour).
14. Sources of company financing (Lecture - 1 hour; practical work - 1 hour).
15. Investments and their significance (Lecture - 1 hour; practical works - 1 hour).
16. Evaluation of the company's economic activity (Lecture - 1 hour; practical works - 1 hour).
17. Company reorganization process, liquidation, and insolvency process (Lecture - 1 hour).
18. 2nd test (Practical works - 1 hour).
Part time extramural studies:
All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one half of the number specified in the calendar
Requirements for awarding credit points
The course includes two tests and practical work according to the course plan. Final assessment of the study course - a test with a mark, which is formed by an accumulative assessment of study results
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Within the study course, 48 hours are allocated for independent studies, which are organized as follows: preparation for the test (18 hours); preparation for practical work and tests (30 hours).
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The rating consists of:
• 40% independent and practical work individually and in a group.
• 30% Test 1 (Themes 1-9)
• 30% Test 2 (Themes 11-17)
10% corresponds to one point on the 10-point assessment scale.
