Course abstract
Students improve their knowledge and skills by working with raster and vector graphics software and creating various design works. The aim of the study course is to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in image editing and enhancement using Adobe Photoshop; in creating, designing, printing and exporting various visual materials using Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge:
•Understand Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator workspace and various tools – 1.-2. tests;
•Able to justify the choice and necessity of a particular tool, filter, mask, layer or panel – 1.-2. tests.
Skills:
•Able to edit images – lab works;
•Able to choose the correct colour model, tool and panel – lab works;
•Use knowledge and skills to analyse and evaluate relevant information in order to create necessary visual works – lab works;
•Able to correctly create visual works for print and web – lab works.
Competence: •Able to independently evaluate and choose the most suitable tools, filters, masks or layers – lab works.
Course Content(Calendar)
1.Adobe Photoshop environment. Layers and layer masks. Filters. Adjustment layers. Saving images for web and print (lecture – 1 h).
2.Image editing and retouching (lecture – 1 h, lab works – 2 h).
3.Creating and adding brushes to brush's library (lecture – 1 h, lab works – 1 h)
4.Creating different visual works (lab works – 4 h).
5.Using Actions. Correcting actions. Creating a cycle of actions (lab works – 2 h).
First test in Adobe Photoshop (1 h).
6.Adobe InDesign environment, tools, dashboards (lecture – 1 h).
7.Creation a visual board (lecture – 1 h, lab works – 2 h);
8.Creation a business card. Correct file preparation for printing (lab works – 1 h);
9.Creation of flyer (lab works – 1 h);
10.Adobe Illustrator environment, tools, dashboards (lecture – 1 h);
11.Drawing and editing shapes, paths. Working with text (lecture – 1 h, lab works – 2 h);
12.Transforming, aligning, exploding, importing objects (lecture – 1 h, lab works – 2 h);
13.Creation of various visual works (lab works – 5 h); Second test in Adobe Illustrator (1 h).
Requirements for awarding credit points
The course includes 2 tests and more lab works. Lab works to be done during lab work in the classroom. All work must be successfully completed.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
The study course does not include independents works. Independent time is for studying for the tests.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The final grade in the study course is based on successfully written tests (80%) and completed lab works (20%).
