Course abstract | |
During the study course, students gain knowledge about higher education in Latvia and Europe, the study process and study environment at the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technolgies (LBTU) and the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology (LPTF), and higher-level studies in hospitality, with particular emphasis on the organization of the study process in order to be able to more successfully start their studies and settle into the study environment. As part of the course, study tours are implemented to several Latvian hospitality companies and the LBTU Education and Research Farm “Vecauce” Ltd | |
Learning outcomes and their assessment | |
During the study course, students gain knowledge about the history, values, studies and their regulatory documents of LBTU and LPTF, about the history of the development of the study program, content, study results, study plan and organization of the study process (test paper), are able to successfully use the acquired knowledge in the implementation of the study process (practical works), analyze what they have experienced during excursions (reports), and at the competency level are able to ensure a successful study process and solve problem situations that arise during studies (practical works) | |

Full-time studies: 1. Higher education in Latvia and Europe. LBTU history, values, symbolism. LBTU in social media. Extracurricular activities (1 hour) 2. E-studies, their management and use (1 hour) 3. Academic honesty. Plagiarism control tools at LBTU (1 hour) 4. Student mobility, studies at foreign universities within the framework of the ERASMUS+ program (1 hour) 5. LBTU Fundamental Library, information search (2 hours) 6. LBTU study regulatory framework. Law on Higher Education Institutions. LBTU Study Regulations, study contracts (1 hour) 7. History of the LPTF faculty, study environment at the faculty, study areas. History of the development of the study program, study results, description of the study plan. (1 hour) Test: Study process at LBTU. History of the study program, 8. Excursion to the SIA LBTU Teaching and Research Farm “Vecauce”, to Riga hospitality companies, to Zemgale region hospitality companies (32 hours) In part-time studies: all topics indicated for full-time studies are implemented, but the number of contact hours is 1/2 of the indicated number of hours. |

Students independently develop excursion reports and submit them in e-study, as well as complete a test in e-study | |
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes | |
The assessment consists of:
• Completed test work (25%). The test work receives a successful assessment (4 points) if half (50%) of its content is answered correctly. • Participation in study tours (30%). • Completed excursion reports (45%), which are assessed – passed / failed. Reports are assessed in accordance with the established assessment procedure. |
