Course abstract
This course brings together the latest developments in timber engineering. The core units for the course are: new wood materials and products, new fastener types and research of behaviour of joints, stress-strain analysis of heavy loaded elements, contemporary timber structures. Design topics will be taught in accordance with structural Eurocodes, which provides specialist knowledge and technical competences; as well as emphasising on the discussion and decision making skills when problem needs to be solved.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge and understanding on contemporary approach to developments in wood materials and products using effective investigation methods. Skills: for analytical and experimental research of stress-strain relationships and behaviour of joints. Competence: to demonstrate an ability to put in use the knowledge and skills for problem solving in structural timber design and research.
