Course abstract
A general view of study process and specialty of landscape architecture. An introduction to the aims and content of landscape architecture and planning, the idea of land-use planning and design. Meaning of term landscape in ecology, geography and other fields of science. History of landscape study. Geographical landscape levels, their complexity and scale of research. Role of human in creation of landscape. Landscape types, their location and characteristic. Specific features in landscape, development depended on nature and historical/cultural situations. History of landscape in Latvia. In study course are included topics about climate changes in rural areas.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
After completing the course student will have:
• knowledge of nature and anthropogenic factors influencing development of Latvian landscape; knowledge of different landscape types, their elements and spatial structure;
• skills to assess the role and place of human and nature elements in establishment of social, aesthetic, ecological and functional qualities of landscape; • competence to study place conditions before starting the design of definite territory; to aggregate information about nature and human impact to the landscape; competence to work according to the Latvia legislative documentation.
