Course abstract
Students gain knowledge of woody plants used in greenery, their biological properties, ecological requirements and uses. Knowledge of the conditions for the selection of flowering planting material, planting and care.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
1. Knowledge of the assortment of woody plants, their economic, economic and aesthetic significance. Skills to practically analyse and evaluate phenotypic traits of tree plants, determine their aesthetic value and identify - 1st colloquium;
2. Knowledge of assortment of trees, economic, economical and aesthetic significance of their use. Skills to practically analyse and evaluate phenotypic traits of woody plants, determine their aesthetic value and identify - Colloquium 2;
3. Competence to evaluate and justify the interaction of flowering plants with the environment, to judge the suitability of the plant to certain ecological conditions, to argue the replacement of the plant species with another more suitable species, if necessary - Control work.
Course Content(Calendar)
1. Introduction - importance of greenery in urban and rural environment. The splendour of the plants - woody plants, herbaceous plants and flowers. Assortment available in Latvia (2h).
2. Principles and guidelines for planting planning. Planting guide, planting catalogues, their use (2h).
3. Integration of greenery into existing environment, principles of ecological compatibility
Principles of development of hollow plans (2h).
4. Uses of woody plants in greenery. Seedling size for woody plants(2h).
5. Assortment of conifers (A-L) (2h).
6. Assortment of conifers (M-T) (2h).
7. Assortment of deciduous trees (A-E) (2h).
8. Assortment of deciduous trees (F-Q) (2h).
9. Assortment of deciduous trees (R-W) (2h).
10. Assortment of creeping plants(2h).
11. Colloquium 1: Recognition of Woody Plants (in Latvian, Latin) by Herbaricized Materials (A-K) (2h).
12. Elaboration of detailed plans of tree plant hollows (2h).
13. Decorative properties of woody plants and their uses (2h).

Requirements for awarding credit points
Written test with mark. At least 75% attendance at classes. Independent works developed, submitted and positively evaluated within the set time. Colloquiums and test successfully passed. For works submitted after the deadline (unless there is a valid reason), the mark is reduced by 1 point. It is also possible to accumulate a test, the criteria of which are determined by the course manager.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The assessment of the study course credit depends on the credit assessment and the cumulative assessment of individual papers, colloquiums and tests. Students who have submitted independent papers, completed colloquiums and tests in the prescribed times, with a grade of not less than 5 points, may obtain an accumulative credit mark consisting of the above-mentioned average arithmetic mark.
