Course abstract
Landscape Sociology encompasses social and ecological systems associated with public open space, urban agriculture, the urban and peri-urban fringe, regional towns and rural landscape. Landscapes make visible the biophysical and social links between nature and culture, especially between natural resource management, conservation (biodiversity) and agricultural food systems. Landscape is a vernacular scene, the product of everyday practice.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
• Knowledge: about the regularities of society's structure, functioning, and development concerning the landscape. 1st and 2nd workshop.
• Skills: working with various sources of information, discussing the trends of society's development, and critically evaluating socio-economic processes in the context of landscape architecture specialty. 1st and 2nd workshop.
• Competence: the ability to navigate in problem situations and make decisions using social knowledge in the professional activity of a landscape architect, to practically use the results of various studies. 1st and 2nd workshop.

Exam
Requirements for awarding credit points
Attendance at classes is not less than 75%. Submitted assessed works within the specified time. Works submitted after the specified time (unless there is a justifiable reason) will have their grade reduced in accordance with the assessment rules approved by the institute. In order to pass the study course, the study works must be positively graded. The form of assessment for the course is an exam.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
1st seminar – use data processing tools according to the situation and including theoretical insights.
2nd seminar – connecting the theoretical knowledge of landscape architecture with practical examples from around the world and Latvia, as well as interpretation of approaches and critical analysis.
Exam – conducting a sociological survey with an appropriate method and/or methods, presenting the obtained results.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
Study course formal test assessment depends on seminar task assessment and study course practical work cumulative assessment. Practical work and seminar is evaluated according to task evaluating form.
