Course abstract

Within the framework of scientific-research practice, 1st year students of the Master's program, in accordance with the chosen topic of the Master's thesis, carry out theoretical and practical research on wood materials in the direction of their research work. During the internship, master's students also obtain initial data for the analysis of the master's thesis situation, as well as materials and methods for the creation of departments, start experimental work.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Master students acquire and strengthen knowledge about wood materials, methods of determining their characteristics and properties in the laboratory. Skills in obtaining information are developed, including standards used in laboratories. Is competent to organize work in the laboratory, under the direct supervision of the supervisor, to carry out extensive scientific research and to develop a practical section for the development of a master's thesis. Knowledge skills and competencies are assessed for each master student according to the prepared summary of independent work and in the form of a presentation prepared for discussions.

Course Content(Calendar)

There are 3 weeks for each activity: 1. Review of previous research on wood materials (seminars and practical classes 48 hours) 2. Development of research goal, tasks, hypotheses and methodology and initial approbation in laboratory conditions (seminars and practical classes 48 hours)

Requirements for awarding credit points

1. Write and submit an independent work on the base of research done and information collected during the internship
2. Defend the report on the development of research methodology, approbation and validation of methodology

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The independent work is developed by the Master's student during the internship on the basis of the summarized analysis of the situation on the topic of the Master's thesis, a recognized research methodology and a summary of the research direction.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The final grade of the study course consists of:
1. Independent work - 50%
2. Discussion of collected information - 50%
